Is your alarm system still effective?  Is the alarms level of detection adequate for the way in which the building is now being used?  For example, ten years ago a school would not have had the quantity of computers and other expensive equipment that are commonplace in most classrooms today.  Who responds to an activation of the alarm system and does your alarm system still command a ‘level one’ priority Police response or a response at all?  And just who is responsible for setting and un-setting your alarm system and securing all doors and windows at night?
These are all questions you may not have considered, and what happens if a break-in goes undetected?  It’s not just the financial loss a break-in can cause, but also the disruption it causes, not forgetting the upset and worry.
It may be time to consider upgrading your intruder alarm system before it’s too late, or at the very least have it re-surveyed to see if it meets your current requirements and the risks posed by increased crime levels.

Maintenance

You wisely invested in an intruder alarm system to protect your family, home and possessions. To guarantee that your system will deliver the protection you require at all times, it’s important to keep it in good working order. What if a fault allowed a break-in to go undeterred or undetected? it could be a heartbreak waiting to happen, so why risk it?
There’s no need to worry any longer, Moffat Fire & Security Ltd offer a comprehensive service and maintenance plan for all types of alarm systems.

Newly Installed Alarm Systems

If you purchase a new “bells only” system from Moffat Fire & Security Ltd then the first twelve months maintenance is free. The alarm system is sold to you outright and does not form any part of a rental agreement. During the first year the contract is fully inclusive: all parts, call out and labour charges are covered for any equipment-related problems. Anything beyond our control (e.g. vandalism, willful or accidental damage) would be chargeable, however. Also, some companies charge for 'out of normal office hours' calls even during your first twelve months. With Moffat Fire & Security Ltd this is not the case.
Twelve months after installation we will send a letter and around that time we’ll also send you an invoice, offering you a maintenance contract. Contracts are optional, and cover a maximum period of twelve months, that is to say you are not required to sign up to three, five or ten year periods unlike the contracts with some alarm companies. However it may be a requirement of your insurance company to continue to have your system maintained, particularly if you have negotiated a discount off your premiums. We would recommend you check your position with your insurance company before deciding.
Our callout engineers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their response, knowledge and ability is second to none, and priority is given to customers on a service and maintenance contract.

Monitoring

The Police will not necessarily attend an emergency call made to them in respect of a ‘bells only’ system. This will depend on (i) whether the caller alerting them can see signs of intruders still on the property, in which case they’ll tend to respond rapidly, and (ii) the Police workload at that particular point in time.
The main communication methods available to send signals to an ARC are: Digital Communicator, BT RedCare
A Digital Communicator is a device not unlike a computer PC modem and is used to communicate between an intruder alarm system and an Alarm Receiving Centre. Digital information is passed to the receiving centre carrying a unique reference number (URN) assigned by the Police. From this URN the Police can call up a predetermined response plan.
The Digital communicator is a very cost effective method of achieving a Police response, however it has a weakness, namely the phone line. Should the phone line be cut the signals would never reach the receiving centre. This communication method is usually acceptable for most domestic installations but for commercial premises insurers would require a monitored system to have RedCare or Dualcom communication:
RedCare is a subsidiary of British Telecom, offering a secure method of transmitting signals from an intruder alarm to an ARC. RedCare is also capable of simultaneously communicating several different messages, e.g. Intruder, Fire, and Panic alarms, etc.
Unlike a Digital Communicator no dialling is involved, rather an electronic series of pulses is regularly transmitted via the phone line to the ARC.
Should the phone line be cut no regular pulse is received at the ARC and a line cut condition is signalled resulting in a Police response.
The system only works on a BT line (not via cable providers, for example) and it can only be obtained through an approved intruder alarm company.
It cannot be connected to a phone line which transmits data i.e. fax , modem, EPOS (Electronic Point Of Sale) which can confuse the signals.
Since recent changes to the ACPO policy which requires further communication after a line cut, conventional Redcare has a limited use, and in its place has come Redcare GSM which is Redcare with a Cellnet GSM back up, i.e. when the line is cut a line cut signal is received via the landline then intruder signals are passed via the GSM back up - confirming the activation is genuine.
If your house requires a system capable of signalling a cut phone line then Redcare GSM could be for you.
BT redcare GSM is the most secure alarm signalling service available on the market today. It is the only dual-signalling system that automatically provides a confirmed activation if both the landline and radio paths are attacked, regardless of which one is attacked first.
redcare GSM offers you double protection by combining redcare's fail-safe alarm signalling technology with BT O2's radio network. It is the only dual signalling system that continuously monitors both the primary and secondary paths, making it one of only a few systems that conform to the highest level - Grade 4 - of European Standard 50131/1
BT Red Care Agile Monitoring is a Grade 2 Dual path signaling service. The system uses a fixed telephone line and a GPRS Vodafone mobile link to ensure alarm Signals are received by the Alarm Receiving Centre. The Red Care Agile is Continuously Monitored every 24hrs so that your phone line is working correctly and to detect faults on the communication path. If one path fails, the other path is capable of forwarding an alert through the Red Care Agile system to the Alarm Receiving Centre. This system can be fitted to either BT or non BT telephone lines.
DualCom GPRS is an advanced communication device for secure alarm reporting, compliant to Grade 2, 3 and 4 of the EN standards. DualCom GPRS is a totally integrated dual-signalling device using both telephone and Vodafone network paths. This combination ensures an alarm signal can be transmitted despite deliberate or accidental failure of either path.
Emizon 21 is a managed service in which the alarm signals are actively managed end-to-end; from the alarm panel to the ARC over IP. This means increased reliability, resilience and accountability, adding up to a secure service that you know you can trust. The system is dual path using primarily the IP network if this was to fail the unit will send the activation details via the GPRS network. For any environment with a broadband connection and a spare Ethernet port this system would be available without the need for an additional telephone line. This system has been designed especially with BT’s 21CN program which may have implications for many traditional types of signaling systems.

Video Verification

One of the biggest problems with current alarm systems is the abundance of  false alarm calls (as many as 90% false alarm calls). With video-verification, monitors can actually visually check for themselves that the alarm is or is not a real emergency and then be better informed to take appropriate action.
TOTALLY Wireless Video Security System - motion activates the integrated night vision camera and sends a 10 second video of the intruder over the cell network to the monitoring station and the site manager. Up to 24 cameras on a single system. Operates for months on one set of batteries. Indoor and outdoor cameras. No wires or power.

The Problem - False Alarms

Because most break-ins occur while the owner is away, it is often impossible to verify an emergency in time to intervene. It is now possible to follow all of the emergency procedures remotely. This is opposed to the old method where the owner (or a guard service) would need to actually physically go to the property and visually check for a break-in. This process is generally inconvenient, time-consuming, and potentially dangerous! Remote verification is the only way to go.

Added benefits of video verification

Not only do the video verification hardware provide you with a solution to false alarms, they also provide a series of value-added benefits to further enhance security and convenience.

Insurance Claims

If during a break-in, property is lost or broken,  a video evidence record of the event to expedite the insurance claims process.

Privacy

The video information is fully protected by an automated system. This means that a 3rd-party monitor will only have access to the video when an alarm is triggered. You get the best of both worlds - privacy and security.

Repair

At Moffat Fire & Security Ltd we can repair or replace most alarm panels, once our engineers attend your property we will check over your system and advise you if it is worth the engineers time repairing the system. When we turn up to your premises we will tell you if the system is repairable straight away we will leave it up to you to choose if you would like it to be repaired or other new component to be added as its our policy not to charge anything we do not agree with yourself first with.
As in most cases if the repair time is longer it would be cheaper and more cost effective replacing the faulty unit with new, this includes the control panel, detector, contacts etc.
In most cases if you  know the make and model  number of the intruder alarm panel we can  usually tell you without  seing it if it is  a system we can repair and if we carry the nessesary parts for.
